Your eyesight is arguably the most important sense that you have. Without it doing everyday tasks that we take for granted become extremely difficult or almost impossible. Regularly scheduled eye exams are necessary in maintainig your vision. Not only will our doctors perform a detailed refraction to optimize your eyesight, but also thoroughly evaluate your eyes for potential eye disorders and diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration etc..
What to expect during your eye examination:
Our doctors take time to listen to and understand your specific eyecare needs. Each appointment is approximately 30 minutes or longer if needed.
The eye exam consists of:
- a detailed eye, medical, and family history
- automated FDT peripheral vision test to screen for glaucoma
- detailed refraction to determine the ideal prescription for your eyeglasses or contact lenses
- careful assessment of your visual skills and binocular ability to make sure that you have comfortable, crisp vision
- evaluation of the health of the both the surface and interior structures of your eyes. Click here to see a diagram of the eye
- Intraocular pressure check
- If this is your first time to our office you can expect to have your eyes dilated. The retina is a very sensitive tissue that can be affected by certain eye disorders, degenerations or diseases. Dilating the eyes allows us to more completely evaluate the health of your eyes and potentially detect and diagnose sight threatening conditions earlier.
